If QPR don’t sign him, there’ll be a queue of other Championship clubs waiting to give us our money back. Unfortunately, just don’t think he’s up to it in the Premier League. His crossing’s too wasteful and he struggles to beat top-class full backs, who know that as long as he’s kept out by the touchline the ball is much more likely to smack against their midriff that it is to find a Newcastle player’s head. What I don’t quite understand, though, is why we’ve got rid of him without lining up a replacement for the squad. If Barton gets injured or suspended, we’re left with Gosling, Ben Arfa, Guthrie and Guttierez, but none of them are really happy in that position. Either Pardew knows something we don’t or he’s still hoping to persuade the Fat Man to let him have SWP. On balance, I’d prefer what we’ve got.
